THE PAINTER'S
FORGE
— Miniature Painting Workshop —
How do you get strong results without sinking 35 hours into a single model?
This workshop is about working with colour, contrast, and acrylics —
making deliberate choices about where effort actually pays off.
Tabletop+ results · All skill levels · Model & paints included
From base coat to finished model — the journey you'll take on the day.
What This Is About
The Painter's Forge is a hands-on painting workshop focused on one question: how do you get strong results without spending 35 hours on a single model?
This isn't a speed-painting class. It's about understanding why paint behaves the way it does — value, chroma, hue, dilution, ink behaviour — and then using that understanding to make deliberate choices about where effort pays off.
We'll run technical exercises on paper and plasticard, then apply everything to a Games Workshop Blue Horror — painting it to Tabletop+ standard: clean, readable from 50–100 cm, eye-catching, and finished in a sensible amount of time rather than fussed over indefinitely.
Meet Bertrand Dubaut
This workshop is led by Bertrand Dubaut — a miniature painter whose work focuses on exactly the philosophy this session is built around: strong, deliberate results without unnecessary hours lost to perfectionism.
Follow his work and see examples of the techniques you'll be learning on the day.

The session is built around practical exercises before a single brush touches the model. By the time you sit down with the Blue Horror, you'll already know why you're making each choice.
The Session, Step by Step
Full session duration and start time announced before registration opens. Entry: €99.99 per person (incl. BTW) — model and all paints included.
Preparation
The Blue Horror model and all paints are provided — both included in the entry fee. You take the finished model home at the end. All you need to bring are your brushes. If you don't own brushes yet, our full range is available to purchase in store on the day.
- Natural hair brushes only — no synthetic brushes. Synthetic bristles don't hold a tip the same way and will limit what you can do in the session.
- Kolinsky sable is the gold standard and what we recommend — size 1, size 2, and a size 00 for details. A sharp, well-formed tip matters more than brand or price.
- A miniature holder
- A hairdryer (optional — speeds up drying between layers)
- A water pot and a palette (we provide these if you don't have them)
- Paper towel
- Your own existing paints if you have them — bring what you own, we'll work with it
All paints and inks are provided by Arcane Forge and included in the price. The list below is for reference — so you know the kind of palette we're working with and can follow along with your own collection at home after the session.
- Black and white
- A couple of good blues — e.g. Kimera Phthalo Blue · Vallejo Model Color Royal Blue · Vallejo Model Color Magic Blue
- A good magenta — e.g. Vallejo Game Color Warlock Purple · Vallejo Model Color Magenta · GW Screamer Pink
- A good red — e.g. Vallejo Game Color Scarlet Blood · Kimera Red · Vallejo Model Color Vermilion
- An orange and a yellow
- An off-white — e.g. Ice Yellow · Light Flesh · Ivory · Sunny Skin Tone
- Inks: magenta · turquoise · ultramarine blue · yellow · orange
You don't need to bring any paints — everything is provided. This list is here so you can build a similar palette at home and keep practising after the session.
