How do you get strong results without sinking 35 hours into a single model? That's the question this workshop is built around.

A hands-on session focused on working with colour, contrast, and acrylics — making deliberate choices about where effort actually pays off. We'll run exercises on paper and plasticard, then paint a Games Workshop Blue Horror to Tabletop+ standard: clean, readable from arm's length, eye-catching, and finished in a sensible amount of time.

All you need to bring: your brushes.
Natural hair only — no synthetic. Kolinsky sable recommended (size 1, size 2, size 00). If you don't own brushes yet, our full range is available to purchase in store on the day.

This workshop is led by Bertrand Dubaut — a miniature painter whose work centres on exactly the philosophy this session is built around: strong, deliberate results without unnecessary hours lost to perfectionism.

What you'll learn

The session covers six core skills in sequence — theory first, then exercises, then the model:

1. Colour theory — value, chroma, hue. What paint actually does and why.
2. Acrylics vs inks — when to use each and how dilution changes both.
3. Brush control — loading correctly, basecoats, refinement, pushing paint.
4. Reading the model — where to focus effort and where to cut corners.
5. Grisaille & glazing — spray a monochrome value map, glaze colour back in.
6. Pushing contrast — the step that makes a model readable at arm's length.
